Description

Ceracolors Water-Soluble Wax Paint 50ml - S2 Diarylide Yellow is a professional beeswax-based paint that delivers the luminous optical depth of wax with the convenience of water-based handling. Diarylide Yellow (PY 83) is a deep, warm translucent yellow with the glowing character many artists associate with Indian Yellow, making it a favourite for golden highlights, sunlit glazing, warm underpainting, and high-chroma mixing. It is especially effective for transparent layers, where its richness builds a radiant amber warmth without chalkiness.

Made from pharmaceutical-grade beeswax blended with naturally derived waxes, Ceracolors supports encaustic and wax painting techniques without requiring heated tools, electricity, or specialist equipment. Use it straight from the tube for concentrated colour, or thin with water for watercolour-like washes, transparent stains, and delicate glazing. As a transparent colour, Diarylide Yellow excels in layering and optical mixing, allowing you to create glowing passages and clean secondary mixes.

Ceracolors dries in two stages: it becomes touch-dry quickly as water evaporates, then continues curing as wax crystals coalesce over days or weeks depending on thickness. During the early stage you can reopen and blend with a damp brush. Once cured, heat set and fuse using a hair dryer, heat gun, or pastry torch to increase durability and wet scrub resistance and to further manipulate the wax surface.

Best on rigid supports such as wood panels, but also suitable on canvas and paper, and can be applied to ceramics, glass, metal, or plastic. Clean up easily with soap and water, and remove dried paint with household ammonia.

Pigment: PY 83 (synthetic organic diarylide yellow, diazo). Series 2. Opacity: transparent. Permanence: A (permanent, see note regarding tints). Conforms to ASTM D-4236.

Lightfastness note: very good overall and stable when used full strength, but less so in tints.
