Cross-Bracing for Large Canvases (48” and Above)
For stretcher bars 48 inches (1220mm) and larger, a cross-brace system is strongly recommended to maintain tension and prevent bowing or warping over time. To create a complete and stable brace configuration, you will need one Type B brace and one Type C brace.
Our stretcher bars can be cut with pre-machined brace slits to accommodate this system; however, brace bars are sold separately and must be added to your order if required. All stretcher bars 48” and above are automatically cut with the internal slot to allow bracing to be installed later if needed.
When ordering brace bars, the brace length should match the shortest internal side of your canvas frame to ensure a proper fit and effective structural support.
Using the correct bracing system is essential for large-scale artworks, heavy canvas, linen, or high-tension stretching, helping your finished canvas remain flat, square and professionally supported for years to come.
