Straight from the tube it feels creamy and slightly ropey, holding its shape as you move it—soft enough to manipulate, yet sculptural for confident, structured brushwork.
Made with basic lead carbonate in pale linseed oil, this lead white contains no stabilisers or fillers (no stearates, waxes, or extenders). The result is an exceptionally high pigment volume concentration (PVC)—reported as up to 50%—giving you a dense, substantial paint that still mixes smoothly with other oil colours without becoming overly stiff. This is one reason lead white has remained a classic on Old Master palettes, especially for body colour, subtle modelling, and durable paint films.
