Straight from the tube, it has a ropey, creamy body that stays soft yet sculptural, holding its shape as you push and model the paint.

Lead White #2 is made with pale walnut oil and basic lead carbonate (PW1), with no additives—no stearates, waxes, stabilisers, or fillers that dilute the pigment character. This additive-free approach supports a very high pigment volume concentration (PVC) (reported up to 50%), giving you a dense, substantial white that still mixes easily into other oil colours without becoming overly stiff. It’s the kind of white associated with historic practice and the “old masters” palette—valued for coverage, structure, and confident paint films.
