Rublev Colours Italian Burnt Sienna is a classic roasted earth pigment made by calcining natural sienna from Italy to create a rich, warm reddish-brown with excellent transparency. When sienna earth is heated, it loses bound water and the hydrated iron oxide converts toward iron oxide, producing the deeper colour and increased translucency that artists associate with true burnt sienna.

This Italian Burnt Sienna is valued for its glowing warm undertones, reliable mixing, and permanence across traditional painting mediums. Use it to create luminous glazes, warm shadows, brick and terracotta notes, portrait underpainting, and natural landscape earths. It disperses well for watercolour and tempera, grinds smoothly into oil paint, and is suitable for fresco and acrylic systems where a stable, transparent earth red-brown is needed.
