Rublev Colours Luberon Burnt Sienna is a premium roasted earth pigment sourced from the famous ochre deposits of Gargas and Rustrel in the Luberon Mountains of Provence, France. Produced by the last remaining European company still operating these historic quarries, this pigment is calcined from natural sienna earth to create a rich reddish-brown with excellent transparency and classic earth warmth.

Burnt sienna is prized for being warmer and more translucent than many ochres. Roasting drives off bound water from the original iron oxide hydroxide minerals and converts them toward iron oxide, producing the deeper colour and increased transparency that artists use for glowing glazes, underpainting, and realistic mixing. Luberon Burnt Sienna is ideal for portraits, landscapes, brick and terracotta notes, warm shadows, and earth palette work across oil, watercolour, tempera, fresco, and acrylic systems.
