Description

Rublev Colours Lead Sulfate is a brilliant white pigment made as tetrabasic lead sulfate using a modern fume process that produces a finely divided, high purity white powder. Historically sold under names like Flemish white, fast white, and sublimed white lead, lead sulfate whites were valued for their clean whiteness and for being less prone to darkening in polluted air compared with basic lead carbonate.

This grade is especially suited to oil painting and traditional paint making where you want a heavy, stable white with a slightly warmer tone than lead white. While its hiding power is generally lower than lead carbonate whites, it offers a distinctive handling profile for mixing and modifying colour, and it has a long history of use in exterior coatings and white pigment blends. It is also useful for artists and makers researching historical materials and traditional formulations.

Key features

  • Tetrabasic lead sulfate made by modern fume process for high purity whiteness

  • Colour Index PW2 (77633), tribasic lead sulfate PbSO4·3PbO

  • Heavy pigment with good colour stability and strong permanence

  • Designed for oil paint making and historical white pigment blends

  • Low oil demand compared with many whites, about 15 to 16 g oil per 100 g pigment
