WARNING: CONTAINS LEAD. Rublev Colours Lead White is a high-purity, finely divided basic lead carbonate pigment used in traditional fine art practice. Also known as Pigment White 1 (PW 1), Lead White is valued historically for its handling qualities in oil paint and its role in European easel painting prior to the 19th century. Rublev Colours Lead White is produced by a modern "quick method" to yield a bright, consistent powder.
Lead White typically contains about 70% lead carbonate and 30% lead hydrate and has a notably low oil absorption, which can produce a distinctive paint consistency when mulled into oil. It can be used in oil painting and may also be used in certain aqueous binders; however, it may darken in sulfur-bearing air pollution when used in watercolour or distemper.
