Rublev Artists Oil Paint Naples Yellow Paris (Series 9, 50ml – Code 357) is a genuine lead antimonate yellow (PY41)—not a modern “Naples Yellow hue” blend—made to historical recipes for artists who want the true material used in traditional painting. The colour is an ocherous yellow with a fine-grained, smooth character and medium tinting strength, ideal for warm light, classical flesh notes, muted highlights, and subtle colour temperature shifts.
This paint is ground in linseed oil with no additives or fillers (no stearates, waxes, or extenders) and is repeatedly stone-milled into a smooth paste. In the hand and on the palette, it feels noticeably dense and substantial compared to convenience hues—loading the brush with a weighty, authoritative colour that handles with control.
Historically, lead antimonate yellow was produced from antiquity and reached peak popularity in European painting between 1750–1850, later replaced by chrome yellow and cadmium yellow. It is rated ASTM I for lightfastness by ASTM International, and traditional sources. Note its compatibility with other pigments when used correctly.
